Then on Tuesday, March 2, we're hosting a happy hour and hope you'll stop by to say hello.
Also, we're hiring! We're looking for an Online Advocacy and Outreach Specialist to join our team. If you or someone you know may be interested, please take a look at the job description.

We're looking for an Online Advocacy and Outreach Specialist to join our dynamic team.
We are the leading organization addressing where and how the Washington, DC region grows, assisting communities in planning for the future by offering solutions to the interconnected challenges of housing, transportation, energy and the environment. Chris Leinberger of the Brookings Institution recently said of us, "You all are one of the best smart growth groups in the country...and I know most of them."
Job Responsibilities
60% Manage all aspects of our online communications, from beginning to end
Working with our staff, you'll identify opportunities for action alerts, fundraising asks, and other communications, frame our message and write a compelling message under deadline, send the message, and then track the results. You'll be in charge of managing our communications calendar, tracking metrics for analysis, and mastering Convio, the advocacy software we use.
10% Run our popular walking tour and forum program
Talk with staff to generate ideas for forums and tours, contact potential speakers and guides, draft event announcements, work with speakers and venues to confirm logistics, manage the event onsite, providing great customer service to attendees and liaising with speakers. Evaluate programs for future improvement.
10% Manage our website
Update content, think creatively about future enhancements, ensure the website reflects our current campaigns/messaging.
5% Manage our social media presence
Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, etc.
5% Run our volunteer program
Gain familiarity with our list of 100+ volunteers, work with staff to identify opportunities to recruit volunteer help, from research to events, structure and manage volunteer activities, coordinate thank-yous and volunteer outreach.
5% Be our face in the community
While a small part of this position, it's important. We try to stay connected offline to the communities where we work, so occasionally you'll attend meetings as our representative, testify at hearings, and table at events like Green Festival and Bike to Work Day.You will also represent the Coalition at our own educational events and with volunteers.
5% The "other stuff"
Because we're a small office, we all pitch in as needed on big events, some administrative tasks, and the random stuff that just comes up.
Our ideal candidate is creative, energetic, highly organized, an excellent written and oral communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills. The candidate must have either a keen sense of or strong desire to learn messaging nuance and strategy; experience with technology, particularly online advocacy software and content management systems; an eye for opportunity; and comfort with new media.
We're looking for a person who has the interest in both writing our online communications and the technology know-how to manage the mechanics. While we expect the candidate to have some experience and ability to work with technology, he/she need not be an expert -- we have limited but very knowledgeable tech support from our fiscal agent's technology department. Finally, our ideal candidate should also enjoy being away from a computer screen every once in awhile and be excited about connecting with our supporters at various events, including our tours and forums.
This person will work very closely with our small staff in this position and will report to our staff member responsible for overall campaign and communications strategy.
This is a full time, salaried position with competitive benefits. Our office is located in DC across the street from a Metro station and on several major bus lines.
